# What is Bollinger Bands?

A 20-day average with bands two standard deviations above and below it.

Price near the upper band is stretched upwards and near the lower band stretched downwards. Narrow bands (a squeeze) mean volatility is low and a larger move often follows. A close outside a band is a breakout signal, not a reason by itself to buy or sell.
